With the outside heat starting to slowly crank up for spring one may be curious what type of air conditioning system goes into a modular home.
Generation V modular homes are completely customizable. Ultimately it is the owner’s choice as to what type of HVAC system they have installed. Gen V’s golden standard for all our homes is a complete traditional HVAC system including condenser, insulated duct system, and insulated boots and registers. Many assume air conditioning splits or smaller systems must be used, but that is not the case!
With our full HVAC systems the cost to cool (or heat) a modular home (of equal square footage) is LESS than a ‘stick-built’ home. By having our duct work pre-installed in the factory the duct system is guaranteed to be appropriately sized and adequately sealed. We take it even a step further by insulating our duct work to ensure no air or heat flow is lost. Gen V modular homes also use a 2 x 6 exterior wall that increases insulation from a R-11 rating to a R-19 rating. This decreases cooling costs compared to site built homes that use the traditional 2 x 4 wall.
“Insulation ratings are measured in R-values per inch of thickness. An R-value measures how well building insulation can prevent the flow of heat into and out of the home. Higher R-value means greater insulation performance, and thus more savings on your next heating and cooling bill,” according to Home Depot.
With the general public being more environmentally cautious the choice to choose energy-efficient materials during the building process has gained in popularity. Most of our Gen V modular home clients opt for homes fully outfitted with energy-efficient materials- windows, siding, insulation- translating into a home that uses less energy overall and saving you money!
Aside from add-ons and upgrades of materials the general building process of factory built modular homes makes them more efficient than site built homes from the start. Quality framing, duct work and better sealing of doors, windows, gaps and crevices are all areas where modular home construction excels compared to a traditional on site built home. The indoor build process of modular home also increases the homes stability and protections- as the structure and materials are not exposed to weather.
While there are many benefits of building a modular home the idea of a greener building process, lessened long term utility costs and a more energy efficient home overall seem to be taking the leader board as of late. The old concept of a factory built home is becoming a thing of the past as technology and factory abilities grow modular homes are becoming the better environmental standard for new construction. With Generation V Homes’ completely customizable options home buyers can now get exactly the home they want, on the lot they want, at a more affordable cost with less impact on the environment from construction through the life of the home.
